van der Rohe's 1930 classic, the Brno Arm Chair is a quintessentially modern masterpiece. In part perhaps inspired by his own 1926 MR chair it appears to be a response to the challenge of incorporating arms into the extremely simple and clean lines of the MR design. The arms of the Brno are fundamental to the lines of the chair, rather than being 'a later addition', as they seem to be in the MR.

As artful as this design is, this is not just a showpiece, it is as sturdy as a workhorse.
