Green Mattresses - Why is Organic Better?
The Organic Mattress industry really deserves some recognition for providing a legal, sustainable and commercially viable alternative to the mainstream mattress.
What's wrong with the mainstream mattress you may ask?
Did you know that fire retardency regulations have become more and more stringent over the last decade? As a result most mainstream mattress manufacturers simply poured on more and more chemicals to make their oil based foam mattresses less flamable. The cocktail of chemicals being used range from the vaguely worrying to outright terrifying. Boric Acid, Formaldehyde, Antimony Trioxide, Decabromodiphenyl Oxide, Vinylidiene Chloride, zinc Borate, and Melamine.
The organic mattress manufacturers, use latex foam - which being made from rubber rather than oil, is vastly less flamable than the alternatives. And then they encase the latex in eight + pounds of organic wool.
Why wool? Because it turns out that wool is so fire resistant that it allows these latex mattresses to meet and exceed the 'open flame' tests required by the regulations. Oh and wool also wicks moisture, keeping you dryer at night, and giving you a better more comfortable, healthier nights sleep.
